Abstract

The purpose of this study is to estimate a proper exercise intensity for the NIDDM patients. 20 subjects(10 NIDDM group, 10 control group) completed twice 50 min treadmill exercise tests. The testes were composed low intensity(LO-40% o2max) and
high-intensity(HI-70% o2max). the experiments was executed in Sports Health Medicine Center, Asan Medical Center since July 1 1995. To compare with plasma glucose and plasma insulin, blood samples were obtained from cephalic vein before exercise,
immediately after exercise and 30 min after exercise.
The datas from the two trials were compared using paired t-test with significance at the 0.05 level. The results of this study were as follow: In control group, glucose and insulin were significantly decreased immediately after exercise in HI. In
NIDDM,
glucose and insulin were significantly decreased immediately after exercise in LO and HI.
This results suggest that LO is as effective as HI in enhancing insulin sensitivity in NIDDM.
